The Horseshoe Tavern is Turning 70 in Style

The Legendary Horseshoe Tavern at the corner of Queen and Spadina in Toronto, has had a long and storied history throughout its 70 years of existence. More stories are sure to come with the live music club’s announcement of a concert series celebrating its 70th anniversary. The series will run from September 26th to December 31st, with the club’s actual birthday landing on December 6th.

In keeping with the Tavern’s tradition’s, a number of multi-night stands have been scheduled, which include Hollerado from October 18th-21st, as well as Elliott Brood on November 3rd and 4th, and 54-40 on November 22nd-25th.

You’ll also be able to catch Borns on October 17th (although tickets for that one sold out pretty fast), and Pursuit of Happiness on October 27th. The video for their iconic 1986 hit “I’m an Adult Now” was actually filmed just down the street from the Tavern.

The National Share New Song, “Carin at the Liquor Store” and Video

With just under a month left before the release of their new album, the National have released a third single teasing Sleep Well Beast. The LP will be out September 8th, and previously released singles include “The System Only Dreams in Total Darkness”, and “Guilty Party”. You can now add “Carin at the Liquor Store” to that list, which was released with a stylized performance-video. Check it out below.

The National go out on tour next week, and will be at the Sony Centre in Toronto on September 9th.


Craig Finn and John K. Samson Are Touring Together in the Fall

Craig Finn and John K. Samson are known as the beloved frontmen of two great bands – Finn fronts the Hold Steady; Samson The Weakerthans. However, within the last year both have released solo albums and have decided to join forces for a tour in the fall.

Finn, who released his third solo album, We All Want the Same Things, earlier in the year, will be listed as the headliner and accompanied by his backing band The Uptown Controllers. Samson will be promoting his latest offering, Winter Wheat, and taking the stage solo.

The tour starts on October 13th, and will feature a single Canadian show in Toronto at the Horseshoe Tavern on October 25th.
